I have noticed with my 30+ friends a couple things:
a) Things associated with getting older (kids, exhaustion from full-time jobs, weakening health) kinda sap motivation to go to live music, clubs, or whatever.

b) people who were heavily involved in a scene/musical subculture (especially anything "hardcore" in some respect) sometimes have a hard time allowing themselves out of it, even when they're tired of it.

We have a "music geek night" here in Denver where we hook up with our fellow music geeks, and we share old and new music alike and discuss the history of artists and genres. Much fun times ensue :) I've gained respect for many artists I scoffed at before.
