Short lived trend?

I was in Walgreens yesterday and I snapped this shot of some eco-cups that YOU TOO can GREAT BUY!

You may have seen them. They are non-disposable replicas of disposable cups. Save a cup and save the planet!

But wait a minute. Haven’t non-disposable cups been around for decades? Oh, well, not ones that look like disposable cups. That’s innovation right there, that is.

But wait another minute. Why do we need to look like we are carrying around a crappy paper cup if we actually paid for a nice lasting one? And if we carry around a cup that looks like a disposable cup, then isn’t everybody going to think that we are still carrying around a crappy planet killing cup?

Guess these are for undercover environmentalists.

These have puzzled me, too. I suppose these are for people who want to be environmentally friendly but are worried that their redneck planet-hating friends will make fun of them for carrying around their own cup.

Hot coffee creates great discomfort for the owner of stainless steel containers (which often don’t fit in the cupholders of my minivan, stroller, riding lawn mower, supersized RV, Honda goldwing and leather game room chairs). The ceramic base is lighter than glass and insulates better.

Clear example of using a trend “environmentally friendly” for selling a fun piece of design. Shabby marketing way… maybe… * Fact is, it’s a fun piece of design :) * I tweet about design & sources 4 inspiration: http://www.twitter.com/chris_pelk *

This cup is ceramic, unlike all of my other non-disposable cups. I’m sure many people have looked at my fabulous, eco-friendly cup and thought it was paper. =)
